The Need for Musical Instrument GPS Tracking

You've seen it time and time again - Another band had ALL their gear stolen. All their prized possessions, their livelihood, their soul - all their instruments STOLEN.

In today's age of technology, there are now solutions to this very need to protect your belongings.

A GPS tracking device for guitars, unfortunately, should be a necessity. Here is what you need to know.

GPS Tracking Device For Guitars

We've all thought about designing a device just like this a long time ago.  But we're all glad that someone took these very same ideas and brought it to fruition.

Touring, or even local live shows, you always had to keep an eye on your instruments. You would have to make sure there is a secure location somewhere in the venue or triple check the locks on your van. And late after the show, you would have to either take ALL the gear into your hotel room/house/etc or have someone in your band sleep in the van solely to keep an eye out for anyone trying to make a quick buck.

And in many stories and instances, this unfortunately is not enough.  Music equipment theft is on the rise.  In Texas, there was a music equipment theft ring recently busted.  Thieves know what to look for as far as band vehicles go. They typically have any equipment necessary on hand as well to break in and take everything you and your band hold dear.

So where's the Peace of Mind? You've just finished an amazing set and deserve to relax without an extra headache of the thought of something terrible happening to your equipment and leaving you gear-less the rest of your tour.

Which - now to help those troubles - comes a Musical Instrument Tracking Device -

Now, the great thing is - There are many to choose from, and they are all pretty cheap in cost. We've checked out alot of them and they all have pretty decent reviews. So to help weave through the crowd -

So What If Your Gear Was Taken Without A GPS? What Are Your Options?

According to Screaming Stone (a musical instrument recovery project), 1 Million musical instruments are stolen in the United States. Only 3% are recovered.
First of all - ALWAYS BE PREPARED - We suggest you save a list of all of your equipment with the descriptions (Color, the year if possible, scratches, identifiable marks or stickers) and the biggest necessity is the Identification #s or Serial Numbers on the guitars or instruments themselves.

If you don't have any GPS Tracking Chips For Equipment you carry, compile that list, and it's probably a good idea to save the list on your phone or on cloud storage so you can pull it up at any given time.

- When cops write up a report about missing equipment, that information is added to a database - pawnshops see that same list and if those Serial Numbers show on their buyer report, they will report that they have your instrument at their location. We've seen it happen quite a few times.

- Another thing is to keep a heavy eye on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace as many instruments will be found being sold on these platforms. Instruments do sell fast, so you might have to check a few times a day.

- Also, it doesn't hurt to reach out to the local community and ask them to keep an eye out as well. Most musicians and fans understand what it's like to have things stolen so most are prone to give some assistance in at least keeping an ear out for anything.

- There are also many sites that have lost/stolen gear databases as well. Doesn't hurt to add your information on those as well. Who knows where help may come from.
